Why did Jamie discourage Sophie from having dreams?

Jansie discourages Sophie to dream because she is a practical girl and also she knows about their condition. Jansie knew that after school they were going to admit in a biscuit factory. Jansie lived in reality and was able to accept their fate .while Sophie did not want to live in reality and wanted to dream and started getting involved in them due to this reason Jansie discouraged Sophie from having dreams.
