Bcoz of the following reasons Jawaharlal Nehru proclaimed that dams are temples of modern India :-

1) Dams have been proclaimed as temples  of  modern India because they integrate development of agriculture and the village economy with rapid industrialisation and growth of urban economy

2) Dams are build to impound rivers and rainwater that can be use later to irrigate fields .

3) It controls flood at the time of excessive rainfall .

4) It protects the devastation of life and property and soil doesn't get eroded.
