First of all there were objective reasons like shortage of food, ruined economics and others. But these reasons were not the fault of Provisional Government.

The second (and in my opinion the main reason) was the activity of bolsheviks party.

The bolsheviks did their best to destabilize situation in the country. Everywhere. They appealed the soldiers to stop fighting and leave army. It was during war! They appealed the workers not to work and start striking at any reason. They intentionaly tried to create chaos in the country to blame in it the Provisional Government. The Provisional Government had a goal. They appointed the All Russian Congress for the beginning of 1918 where the people should have selected a new power. And they saw their mission was to open that Congress and pass the power. This is why bolsheviks were in a hurry to make a coup before that Congress.

The bolsheviks used the tools that worked very well in Russia: lie and terror. They easily promised everything what people wanted to hear. They promised to give the land to peasants. They promised to give the factories to workers. There were a lot of silly people who believed to that promises, who wanted to get everything at once without doing anything. Today we call it populism. Even today there are a lot of people in my country who beleive the promises announced by Saakashvili and others talkers like him.

When bolsheviks took the power they began to kill those who remebered their promises. But this is a different story.

So bolsheviks are the main reason of Kerenskii government unpopularity

The Provisional Government led by Kerensky became unpopular in Russia due to the inâuence exercised by industrialists and landowners in its functioning. Initially the Bolsheviks supported the government. However, discontent grew and the Provisional government took strict action to control rising discontent. Factory committees and trade unions were formed along with soldiers' committees. Leaders of workers were arrested by the government and popular demonstration by Bolsheviks in 1917 was repressed. There were also fears that the government could set up a dictatorship. All these factors led to the unpopularity of the government and contributed towards the October Revolution in 1917.
