Why did league of nations fail formed after 1st world war?

League failed in its main object of maintaining peace in the world . Inspite of its efforts for two decades , the whole world was involved in a war in 1939. By that time , the machinery of the League Of Nations had completely broken down. The failure of League Of Nations can be attributed to many causes

League of nations failed due to
i) Lack of arm power to punish the guilty
ii) Rejection of America to join League of nations
iii) Lack of unity among the principle nations like England and France
iv) And also due to selfish contrary policies of member nations
