Mahatma Gandhi decide to call off the Civil Disobedience movement as the chauri chaura incident seriously affected him as he realised that the practice of non violence had not been properly learnt by the people. There were attacks all over the place, burning down police station and killing 22 police men everything...
Again in 1930, the civil Disobedience movement was launched with the historic Dandi March. While the civil Disobedience movement was in full swing, the first round table conference was set up to discuss the recommendations of the Simon commission in London in November 1930.
The congress boycotted the conference. The British realised that without the participation of the Congress, no decision could be taken further. In early 1931, an agreement reached between the viceroy of India, Lord Irvwin and gandhi. The British government agreed to free all political prisoners against whom there were no charges of violence. In return, the congress suspended the civil Disobedience movement and agreed to attend the second round table conference. But nothing was happened regarding granting our dominion status. The British government refused and gandhi returned disillusioned and disappointed. He then again announced the revival of the civil Disobedience movement and then was arrested as soon as he reached bombay.
Thanks
