Mahatma Gandhi opposed the Rowlatt Act because it was an unjust law and the act provided arrest of Indians on the basis of mere suspicion. Gandhi termed it as Black Act and argued that not all people should be punished in response to isolated political crimes. Gandhi started the the satygraha against the act and it came to be known as Rowlatt Satyagraha.
