why did marcys attitude towards duke change?

Initially, she did not like him as she wanted to have a Pomeranian. Due to her dislike, Hooper was hesitant to bring Duke home. But when Hooper began to recover due to Duke's miraculous help and support, she developed a liking for him. She had grown so fond of him that at the time of his accident, she did not let anyone touch him and carried him to the car herself. ..I hope this would be helpful..

Marcy was wife of Charles Hooper in the story "A dog named Duke".

Marcy was not much interested in dogs and she hate dogs. She don't want Charles to keep a dog at home. But her attitude towards Duke changes because Duke loved his master very much and put every efforts to make Charles as he was before the accident.
