Why did margie feel that children in old times having fun while school time?

Tommy described old kind of school as a special building where all kids studied together. There were hundreds of students studying and playing together. They used to shout and laugh together in an open yard.

Because in old times they can play with there friends, human teacher can teach them,etc. where as in margie's time they can't do all those things and have fun.
