Mowgli did not trust men, because-

• He was brought up by the animals so he was habitual of living in the dark. So, those animals made him aware about the human and their behavior of hunting. He has been told about the harsh behavior of human.

• Once, he was instructed to keep away from human's hunts. Once he got interested to see villagers and their way of living but Bagheera showed him about the trap made by men.

• The trap was a box with a gate and was cunningly hidden in the forest that mowgli was nearly walked into.

• After watching all this, he realized that it will be better to return into dark warn heart of forest with them again.
