Muhammed Bin Tughlaq was a great thinker, Scholar in many languages, intelligent and ambitious ruler. But his policies made him

unpopular among the people. As he didn't introduce his policies at the right time.

Some of the policies which made him unpopular were:

Increasing taxes in the Doab region:

Muhammed Bin Tughlaq increased the taxes in the Doab region to increase the Economy in his reign. But in the same year, a famine occurred in the Doab region. People were forced to pay the taxes and some were bullied. Knowing his mistake, Tughlaq dug wells and removed the taxes but it was too late already.

Shifting Capital from Delhi to Devagiri:

Muhammed Bin Tughlaq had a desire for centrally located capital and there were frequent Mongol invasions. So, Muhammad Bin Tughlaq shifted his capital from Delhi to Devagiri [ Daulatabad ]. He ordered his people to shift to the new capital. On their way, many people became homeless and some lost their lives. Muhammad again told his people to return to Delhi which was a blunder mistake.

Introduction of Token Currency:

Muhammad Bin Tughlaq introduced token currency instead of Gold and Silver to increase the flow of money. But he didn't take necessary measures to prevent fake coins. This resulted in the flow of fake currency in the market. The value of money was decreased due to this.

The above policies made Muhammad Bin Tughlaq infamous among the people.
