Mohammed bin Tughlaq was a Delhi Sultan.

>> He was very intelligent, educated, philosopher and the most able thinker than any other Delhi Sultans.

>> Mohammed bin Tughlaq belongs to the Tughlaq dulynasty.

>> There was a desire for Muhammed bin Tughlaq to have a centre capital and he wanted to maintain a safe capital as there were Mongol invasions frequently.

>> So he shifted the capital from Delhi to Devagiri and renamed Devagiri as Daulatabad.

>> He ordered the people of Delhi to shift to Devagiri. This resulted a huge human loss as many died in their way and there was economic depression.

>> Knowing his failure, Tughlaq again sifted the capital to Delhi which caused a double loss.

Hence, the shifting of capital by Tughlaq is a failure.

Answer:

Mohammad-bin-Tughlaq transferred his capital from Delhi to Devagiri to have better administration over South India and forcibly moved the entire population to the new capital. But the capital shifted back to Delhi after two years because of the lack of water supply in Devagiri.
