1 the muslim leaders falsely pretended that their interest could only be protected in a muslim state and in a state with hindus they would be at the mercy of the hindus

Gandhi ji did nit want seperate electorate on the basis of religion or caste as he was of the view that it would have divided India. Most of the Hindu leaders were against this. Ambedkar wanted seperate electorate for dalits as he was convinced that it would ensure political power to dalitis. Initially jinna was in favour but later agreed to be on gandhiji's side in the hope of getting adequete representation of muslims in muslim dominated states, like punjab and bengal.
