Indian Indigo was grown in Limited quantities and sold at very high prices in the European markets.
Local producers who produced a blue and violent dye called as woad opposed the sale of Indigo which gave them tough competition.
In order to remove the competition from Indian Indigo, European woad producers pressurized the government to ban the import of Indigo.
