Explanation:

The Enfield rifle that the British wanted their soldiers to use, had cartridges which had to be bitten off before it was loaded into the rifle....This sparked off a general mutiny among the Indian soldiers stationed at Meerut on 10 May,1857.Meerut is almost 60 kilometres from Delhi

The immediate cause of the Indian revolt mutiny was a seemingly minor change in the weapons used by the British East India company troops. The company had upgraded to the new pattern 1853 Enfield rifle ,which used greased paper cartilages.
