why did ruthurford not find it surprising that the alpha Patricals went through the empty space in the gold foil?

rutherford after doing the experiment,said that
*Almost all the alpha particles passed through the foil but
*even though they passed ,a few of them deflected back at different angles
*he said that even 2 or 3 of the alpha particles reflected back after hitting the gold foil because they were large enough.
*most of the a -particles,passed into the gold foil but the larger a-particles, reflected back at many different angles.this proves that the size of atoms between the foil was large.
*This positively charged was the nucleus.
after this,he concluded that the space taken up by the central nucleus,was very small.

Rutherford Scattering experiments :-
we know, before Rutherford model , JJ Thomson sir gave the model of atom , according to him , positive and negative charge arrange in such a way that watermelon , in which seeds are negative chagre and red part just like positive charge .but in this model we can't find the stability , configuration of electrons, and most important nucleus of atom ( e.g where density of mass is high ) .
Rutherford confused how this model is perfect for significant of atomic structure .so, they study about electrons which was discovered by Thomson sir . and started scattering experiment .
he took gold foils ( very thin (0.1mm)) and alpha particles ( positive Heleium nuclie)
for this experiment .
he observed that :-
a) most of alpha particle passing through gold foils directly . he said due to maximum part of atom is empty so, this phenomenon occur .
b) very few alpha particles , deflect 180° ,
he said that very small part of atom , have high density is known as nucleus .
whole mass of atom contains in nucleus .
he said why alpha partcle deflect in this space? due to positive charges contain in this space . so, deflection occur , because alpha particles are also positive particle ( +ve - +ve repulsion force )
