Well, Dr. Sadao helped the American soldier for two reasons. Firstly, he had been morally bound by the Hippocratic oath to treat any patient irrespective of their nationality, colour, creed, or religion. Secondly, he had spent eight years of his years learning medicine at America. He had a soft corner in his heart for a man who belonged to the country where he had learnt so much; he owed meeting Hana, his wife and love, to America. So the above mentioned two points impelled Dr. Sadao to treat the American prisoner of war.

He took lots of risk in helping the American soldier escape. He put his own and his families life at risk. When the General’s plan of disposing of the POW did not happen, Sadao decided to help the POW escape to a safe island. He gave him a boat, provisions for a few days, and a torch for indicating for further help, in case he needed. He instructed him to get on to a Korean boat and then to an American base.

Answer:

Dr.Sadao helped and offered treatment to the American soldier of war.

This was because he was a doctor and had taken oath for saving lives.

Even though the soldier was a national enemy, he served the soldier due to a doctor’s professional ethics.

Dr.Sadao prompted the soldier to escape in a fishing boat with no flashlight and ensured the American’s safe and secure departure.
