Why did Sadao wait before falling in love with Hana ?

Dr. Sadao Hoki or simply Sadao was an eminent Japanese surgeon who was a pure Japanese by his race. He use to render wounds so professionally that no mark of it use to remain on the body. He went to America for pursuing his further studies in the subject Medicine. There his professor and his wife conducted a get together for all the international students. Sadao first time met Hana there. He at first sight got impressed by her but he waited to fall in love with Hana because he wanted to make sure that the girl he loves and will marry is pure in race or not, i.e., whether the girl is completely a Japanese or not by her religion as his father would not allow any other girl rather than a Japanese. He respected his father and his decisions and so he waited to fall in love with Hana.
