why did simon commission came to India and why it was opposed in India ?
Answers
Answer:
In 1927, the British Conservative governement appointed the Simon Commission to consider the situation in India. There were many reasons why the Simon Commission was opposed by Indians.
The main reason was that there was no Indian representative in the commission as all the members were British. This made the Indians feel insulted, and led to a growing belief that the British were again trying to strengthen their control over India. This fact was unacceptable to all Indians.
Since the Indians desired independance from the British, and seeing the after effects of the British reforms in 1919, opposition to the Simon Commission seemed like a good way to show their general opposition to the British.
