Why did so many countries in Southern Africa experience economic stagnation in the 1980s and 1990s? Is there any evidence of recovery in the last decade? Illustrate your answer with reference to literature and data relating to one or more Southern African economy

Many countries in Africa including Sierra Leone, Morocco, Benin, Senegal and Zimbabwe faced poor economies during the time period between the 1980s to 1990s due to a number of factors.

The main factor was colonialism that most of the national economies resulted in virtual mono-culture exporters. They were also heavily dependant on the bulk of consumers, capital goods, equipment and technology.
