Why did solid carbon dioxide also called dry ice

Because it looks like ice and because when it melts I mean it actually sublimes it goes from solid straight to gas, no liquid, hence dry ice.

two reasons :
1.carbon dioxide looks like ice formed out of water and second leaves no liquid Residue as it sublimates that is changes directly from the solid to the gaseous state and from the gaseous to the solid state .
