Why did subhas chandra bose resigned from the post of president of the congress party?

in 1938 subhas Chandra Bose was elected as president of national congress. he sought re-election in 1939. but gandhiji he supported pattabhi sitarammya for the Inc president. due to the support of radical element of party Bose was re-elected as president. Gandhi wasn't happy and said defeat of pattabhi sitarammya was his own defeat. hurt by gandhi's suffering 13 members resigned from inc. at that time those who supported Bose began supporting gandhi. so it became difficult for Bose. so he resigned in 1939
