In "The Last Leaf" by O. Henry, Sue cries bitterly because Behrman dies while painting the ivy.
He was painting the ivy so that Johnsy could be saved. It speaks a lot about Sue's character.
While she loves her friend, Johnsy, at the same time, she feels a lot about Behrman too who tries his best and helps Johnsy in saving the life of Johnsy.
She also knows that Behrman went out of his way to paint the ivy so that Johnsy lives on.
