Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan built the Jama Masjid between 1650 and 1656. ... It was originally called 'Masjid e Jahan Numa', meaning 'mosque commanding the view of the world'. The construction was done under the supervision of Saadullah Khan, wazir (or prime minister) during Shah Jahan's reign.
