There is a difference in average speed and average velocity due to directional velocity factor.

Speed is a scalar quantity that is it depends only on the magnitude but not direction.

It is the rate at which an object covers the distance in a specific period of time.

Hence, the average speed is a scalar quantity.

Whereas the velocity is vector quantity hence it depends upon both magnitude and direction, so is the average velocity.

HEY!!

▶️Speed is the distance travelled by a body in an interval of time.

⏺️Speed = Distance / Time

▶️While average speed is the speed taken out from the total distance covered from total time taken to cover the  trip.

⏺️Average speed = Total Distance / Total time
