The British has grabbed their land and displaced them from what they believed was their ancestral land, so they had to resist.

The British had taken over their freedom, one could not possibly move around without being questioned.

The agitation was among all the citizens of India in 1857.

It was against the British rule in India and is termed as a rebellion, a revolt,

The "Sepoy Mutiny" and "War of Independence".

All these terms have a meaninh when they are incorporated together.

It was clearly visible that there was great resentment for western culture.
