Why did the British government force Indian farmers to raise cotton? What was the effect of this imperialistic act?

Because the cotton they uses from the other countries is costly and they wanted to do its cheaper so they forced Indian farmers to raise cotton.

The British government forced the Indian farmers to grow cotton and other commercial crops too like jute, tea etc because these raw materials were highly in demand in Britain and they wanted to export cotton to Britain for making finished products.  


This imperialistic act on the part of the British government made way for the Industrial Revolution and the British made huge profit out of it.
