Why Did the British put in practice different types of revenue settlement for different areas? How did they affect the lives of the people?

1. One-fifth of British India was governed by the Permanent settlement or Zamindari settlement introduced by Lord Cornwallis.

2. Mahalwari system operated in Punjab, central regions and northwestern parts of British India.

3. Ryotwari system was in place for major trade centres and more than half of British India.

These three revenue settlements destroyed the income of farmers and brought maximum revenue to the British administration.
