Britain voluntarily granted or gave India freedom in 1947. Starting right from the Sepoy mutiny there was constant revolt against the British rule.
The British saw that controlling the young, radical independent freedom fighters would cost them more than just money — it also meant losing their reputation.
So after careful political consultation, the decision was made as the pressure continued to grow on the British.
