Titanic sank at 0220 hours. At 0300, officers of the Californian sited rockets coming from the south. These were from RMS Carpathia who had traveled all night towards Titanic. At 0416, A shift change resulted in Californian's wireless operator to inquire about why a ship had fired rockets earlier.
