  • In the story "The Lost Child" written by Mulk Raj Anand, the child weep bitterly when the stranger lifted him in his arms because the child was enticed by many things in his direction to the fair. Being carried away towards them, he repeatedly lagged but he would try to catch up with his parents whenever they would yell at him.

  • But, things took an awful turn when he got so fascinated by the sweetmeat-seller, balloon-seller, garlands, and the snake charmer's flute that he resisted moving without waiting for his parent's answer. Eventually, he could not withstand the roundabout and turned back for his parents' statement to his request for a ride. At that point, he realised that he had lost his direction as his parents were nowhere to be found.

  • An intense cry of anxiety and insecurity gulped his throat. Tears were rolling down from his eyes. His flushed face convulsed with fear. Panic-stricken, he ran in all directions. Not knowing where to go and what to do, he cried for his mother and father. The kind stranger tried to console him. But the child had lost interest in everything and he wanted to join his parents again. He cried and said, "I want my mother. I want my father!"
