The framers of Indian Constitution thought that Indian Constitution is a Federal Constitution. The other view is that the Indian Constitution is Quasi federal.

In a Federal Constitution the powers

of State are distributed among a number of co-ordinate bodies. The Constitution is the supreme power in a Federal Constitution and it is necessary that the Constitution is always in written form. Rigidity of the Constitution is also an important feature which means that it is not really easy to amend it.

This Federal nature of Indian Constitution is inspired and adopted from the American Constitution. The American Constitution us universally regarded as an example of Federal Constitution. It establishes dual polity or dual form of Government, i.e., The Federal and the State Governmenta. The powers of both the Central and the State Governments, are divided and both are independent in their own spheres.

Answer:

Solution. India has adopted a federal form of government in which there is a strong national government at the centre and powers are distributed to the state and local government. The Constitution makers went ahead with the thought of federalism because of India's large size and diversity.
