Why did the distance increased between Khushwant Singh and his grandmother in 'The Portrait of a Lady' when he mved to town? The question is from Class 11 chapter The Portrait of a Lady

The distance increased when the narrator moved to town , as he binded with the culture of English school , according to grandmother, it important to read scriptures and about god in the schools, but there he learnt about science and English . this create a lot of distance as grandmother did not like the English school 's culture
