European know about the wealth of India since the Ancient time out of the trade link that India established with Greece and Rome and they wanted to do trade with India. All the existing trade routers were closed for Europeans after the fall off constantipole in the hands of Ottoman Turks in 1453 So, developing a new sea route to India to become inviatable for European.
