because India was a vast country with vast resources and they wanted to occupy all the resources of India as they were merchants they also wanted to make high profits so they occupy India its resources and became rich

There were many reasons for the Europeans to do this, but the most important thing is that economic reason. They wanted to discover more countries such as North and South America. Asia was the one that they wanted to capture as Asia produced many goods which the Europeans wanted for their country such as silk, food, minerals, etc.
