Why did the first war of independence fail in spite of the participation of the different sections of Indian society?
There were two major reason why it was failed.
It was limited to Sanyasi, Soldiers and few India Kings. Major powerful Indian States e.g. Punjab, Marathas, Gwalior were away or supported Britishers. All over the world , revolutions were happening to dethrone King / Emperor and In India we’re fighting to throne Zafar.
It was initiated in organized way to kick-off uprising on a scheduled day so East India company did not get a chance to react or get backup from other units. But one mistake wiped out whole uprising and East India Company was able to handled this easily because it outburst in bit of pieces. That mistake was Mangal Pandey who react before the schedule date and it automatically spread message to East India Company that something going on. Whole country was set to kick-off uprising on 10-May-1857 across India but Mangal Pandey’s revolt which was happened in March 1857, give opportunity to British to suppress 1857 revolution easily. ( I have full respect to Mangal Pandey but it is bitter historical fact).
