why did the french introduce modern education in vietnam?

the vietnamese people were illiterate. it was a big problem for the french. so they wantes the vietnamese to be educated who in turn would benefit the french. so the french started new educational policies to work fr them and to give them the oppurtunity work hard for there country.

too develop it's colony, because Vietnam is a colony of France, by French teacher they learnt them, not only education by Mekong delta they had developed rice became main production
