In early times people used to think that it was neither good nor safe for girls to learn or go to school. They thought that girls were made to do domestic duties only.
That is the reason why the grandmother never got a chance to go to school.

After moving to the city grandmother no longer accompanied the speaker to school, as there was no longer any need to do so.The speaker now went to a English school in a motor bus.
