The intruder wanted to impersonate Gerrard because he killed a cop and was moving from place to place to elude the police. And while moving, his dodging brought him to Aylesbury where he saw Gerrard and heard some men talking about him. So in order to hide his own identity he wanted to impersonate in some other person's identity. Since intruder was in similar build like that of Gerrard, the thought of killing him and taking his place struck intruder's mind and he went to kill hi . He threatened Gerrard. He tried to get some information about him. He gave him many warnings. But brave hearted Gerrard took action calmly and caught the intruder by his clever plan. He was very clever and outwitted intruder in his own evil game. He used his presence of mind and locked intruder in a cupboard. Intruder was unsuccessful in his plan and the smart Gerrard handed this dangerous murder to cops.
