The landlord’s wife, Mrs. Hall thought Griffin was an eccentric because of his unseal appearance and behavior. He had been wrapped up in clothes from head to foot. His face, hands, forehead, and head, etc. were wrapped in bandages. He wore dark glasses even inside the inn.  

His behavior was very eccentric; his luggage was also very strange. Thousands of small bottles containing chemicals and apparatus arrived. He would not encourage anyone to come close and have conversation with him. On Sundays he would not go to Church.

All these things compelled Mrs. Hall to think Griffin was eccentric.
