Why did the linnaean classification system change from a 3 domain system to a 5 (or 6) kingdom system?

The change happened because it does not differentiate between unicellular and multicellular, photosynthetic and non photosynthetic, prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms...there were some organisms which neither fell into plants nor into animals like chlamydomonas ,slime moulds
