Answer:

The narrator felt complacent or relieved when he met the lady after many years because when he met him again at the play he would not have recognized her untill one of them told her name. She was very fat at this point of time. The author was not the take-revenge type of person but he had been given his share of justive by the divine. Years ago when they met for luncheon the lady kept on ordering expensive food items and left the author or the narrator penniless. He was broken. But now seeing her weighing 21 stone he felt  complecent when he met the lady.

Answer:

The narrator felt complacent when he met the lady many years later for he did not have to work to get his revenge on her. But cunningly she was getting him to treat her with a free and expensive luncheon. When he barely had enough money to support himself survive throughout the month.
