The people of Bastar raised a revolt against the Britishers, because of the following reasons :--
(a) They were angered by the British decision to reserve two-thirds of the forest in 1905.
(b) The British also stopped shifting cultivation, hunting and collection of forest produce.
(c) People were also affected by increased land rents and demands for free labour and goods by colonial officers.
