Why did the people of Vietnam protest against the spread of Christianity ?

Most of the Vietnamese followed Buddhism or Confucianism as their religions since many centuries, as per the traditions of the entire region of Southeast Asia.

When the Christian missionaries started working there for the spread of Christianity, they found it as a threat on their basic culture and religion for which they protested against it.

Moreover, the liberal beliefs of Christianity were quite in contrast nature to the common religious beliefs and practices of this land.
