1. the boy was too shocked and grief- stricken to listen to any sense.
2. the poet also observed that the boy was trying to stand up or bear the loss on his own through self understanding which is much more reflective and lashing.

The poet not console the boy because he want the boy to learn the nature of loss. That in this small life he will loss many things but he have to understand that the thing which we have loosed can't be back.
