- The seven years war fought from 1756-1763 between England and France had a great impact on the economy of France . The king had no alternative except leaving heavy taxes .
- During the eighteenth centuary, the Frech society was divided into three groups called estates . The first two estates comprising clergy and nobality were exempted from paying taxes. . The third estate comprising the commomn masses had all the burden of paying taxes.
- The common masses were already groaning under the burden of paying heavy taxes. The news spread that Louis XVI is going to impose further taxes created anger among the masses.
- Many French Philosophers like John locke , Montesquie , Rousseau and Voltaire inspired the peoples with the new ideas of liberty , equality and fraternity and motivated them to fight for their rights .
