The Indian farmers were reluctant to grow indigo for the following reasons:
The farmers were paid a very low amount for indigo as compared to the pulses.
Since indigo destroys the fertility of the field the farmers could not grow any other crop.
The cultivation of indigo required more care than any other crop and since the farmers were paid very less they refused to grow indigo
