Why did the United States become involved in the Philippines’ affairs?

I think it is because the United States want the Philippines' to become a state in United States. So they thought that would be nice to do so it would kinda be like a little sister and a big brother.

Due to this, the United States considered that is nice to perform so this state will like a big brother and little sister.
