Land revenue Settlement of the British

Explanation:

  • With the grant of diwani (right to collect taxes from bengal, Bihar and Orissa) from the Mughal Emperor Shah Alam II.The British introduced many land revenue Settlements to collect as much as revenues as possible.
  • The Permanent Settlement of Bengal, the Ryotwari Settle ment and the Mahalwari Settlement were introduced by the British. All these Settlements proved to be harmful for the peasants. The rate of revenues were very high and if the zamindars or revenue collectors of British fail to pay the revenue in time then the land were confiscated. So,the zamindars used to impose more revenues to the peasants.
  • The peasants inorder to pay the revenue used to take loans from the Zamindars. The rate of interests were very high and the peasants becomes slaves of the zamindars for long term for generations.
