Answer:
The war of succession take place among Shah Jahan's son because they all wanted to be the heir to the throne. In the past times, mostly royal families, took harsh steps and did whatever they could (even if it was to kill their brothers or fathers) to become emperor.
Despite the efforts of Aurangzeb’s brothers, they could not achieve there goal. On hearing of their fathers illness, everyone set of from their provinces except Aurangzeb. Aurangzeb waited and did not take any action. When the wars took place, Aurangzeb’s superior tactics came handy and won him the throne. Apart from his tactics and bravery, luck was also with him. In the battle of Samogarh when Dara shikoh (his brother) exchanged his wounded elephant for a horse, his soldiers unable to see him, fled from the battle field. So you can say that luck and tactics, both had won him the throne.
