I have read this novel many a time since I love stories played around orphans. The novel is a fiction, though some of the incidents put in it are spiraled from the life of the author himself when he was living in Dehradun with some guardian, like Mr. Harrison.

Otherwise, the backdrop of the novel is real and things and friends explained in the novel are real (with names change). There can be many incidents that seem true to real life, however, this is the way a fiction sounds like.
